Jane Bonham Cox

Jane “Janie” Cox specializes in attorney and judicial discipline defense, attorney admissions with respect to character and fitness requirements, legal ethics, and professional responsibility.

Janie is an experienced trial attorney and has represented hundreds of attorneys in disciplinary matters before the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel and Presiding Disciplinary Judge. She advocates for judicial officers in proceedings before the Colorado Commission on Judicial Discipline, and advises law firms, government agencies, and legal professionals, on ethical duties and compliance, and has served as an expert witness in numerous legal ethics matters.

Before returning to private practice in 2022, Janie served as Assistant Regulation Counsel for the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel, investigating and prosecuting attorney misconduct and advising on matters involving the Fund for Client Protection, which instilled a deep, inside perspective on attorney discipline and ethics enforcement.

Janie's legal foundation includes broad experience in family law, estate planning, and civil litigation. She earned her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Miami.

As a recognized leader in Colorado’s legal ethics community, Janie is a frequent presenter for the Colorado Bar Association and other professional organizations. She has developed and delivered over 40 CLE presentations on topics including professionalism, trust account management, disciplinary avoidance, and emerging trends in legal ethics.

Janie is an active member of the legal community, currently serving as Vice President of the Douglas Elbert Bar Association, following terms as Secretary and Treasurer. She is a proud member of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association, the Arapahoe County Bar Association, and the Colorado Bar Association. She serves on the CBA Ethics Committee and the Board of Governors, and is a Fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation.  Janie is also an involved member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the Colorado Judicial Institute, the American Bar Association, and the National ABS Law Firm Association.

Janie’s career reflects her dedication to promoting and maintaining the highest levels of legal professionalism, guiding Colorado’s legal community in navigating ethical obligations, and advocating for both compliance and defense in disciplinary matters.

In her personal life, Janie is a traveler, art lover, gardener, bookworm, and proud dog mom.
