Jeremiah Rygus
Jeremiah Rygus is Counsel in Recht Kornfeld’s New York office, where he represents clients in complex criminal and civil litigation in New York and across the United States. A seasoned trial attorney, Jeremiah has tried dozens of cases to verdict and brings extensive courtroom experience to every stage of litigation. His practice includes defending individuals and entities in high-stakes criminal matters, as well as litigating sophisticated civil and constitutional issues.
Before joining Recht Kornfeld, Jeremiah served as a Supervising Attorney with the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, a nationally recognized defender organization, where he oversaw office-wide trial supervision and managed a caseload of serious felony cases. He began his career at one of the nation’s most respected public defense offices, The Bronx Defenders, handling major felonies and serving as a member of the office’s Forensic Practice Group, where he led and supervised complex forensic litigation.
An experienced educator and lecturer, Jeremiah has taught trial practice and litigation skills with numerous law schools and legal organizations. Much of his work centers on constitutional law, where he continues to litigate significant issues involving civil rights and due process.
He earned his J.D., cum laude, from New York Law School, where he was a John Marshall Harlan Scholar and a Joseph Solomon Public Interest Fellow. He earned his B.A. in Journalism, cum laude, from the University of Washington, where he attended on a full academic scholarship. Jeremiah is based in Manhattan and lives in Brooklyn with his family.
